A Devar outfit on Wednesday urged the producer and director of Vikram’s forthcoming release ‘Deiva Thirumagan’ to immediately change the title as it hurts the sentiments of the community.

Devar Kula Koottamaippu president Shanmugaiah said ‘Deiva Thirumagan’ is one of the popular sobriquets of Muthuramalinga Thevar, a leader from their caste, who fought for the welfare of the downtrodden.

“Using his name as a movie’s title would hurt the sentiments of people of our community. They would not accept this. So the title should be changed with immediate effect,” he said.

Shanmugaiah added: “Protests will be staged in front of theatres screening ‘Deiva Thirumgan’ if the movie’s title is not changed. The makers of the film should understand our feelings.”
